Well, our rooster Stewart (Stew for short!) is a magnificent Barred Rock gentlemen with a great interest in the “ladies”….
Unfortunately, we only had two ladies for him to lord over.
Our chicken coop was just not winterized enough to keep our birds over the winter so we decided to take them to spend the winter at a friends barn who also has cattle. This barn stays cozy for the winter.
So….we caught Stew and his ladies and took them to Sammy’s barn. He was most unimpressed and I think feared that he was destined for the “Stew” pot!
Now Sammy has about 15 Bantam hens. So when Stew arrived at his new winter digs he was very flustered and squawked and fussed when we let him out of the transport cage.
He made a right fool of himself at first. But then…..
All of a sudden he noticed all these great looking chicks! My friend from Australia calls them Chooks! Great name!
Well…Stew looked around and saw that he was in hen heaven and he wasn’t being served up with some peas and carrots! So…he straightened himself up real quick.
Next thing we looked and Stew was fluffing up his plumage and strutting around that hen pen like a whole new man with a new mission written all over his bright red comb!
At last report Stew is doing just fine and so are the ladies!
