Does anyone REST adequately for their heart heath?

Rest is very important but the right kind of rest it must be. Rest simply by being inactive is not necessarily rest because if the person is stressed then being inactive is not going to change that. Meditation on the other hand can provide you with the ultimate in rest. In meditation the aim is not to react to thoughts. In everyday life we react to thoughts spontaneously all the time and without even thinking about it. Not reacting to thoughts is not easily attained but well worth the effort. Start with 5 minutes a day and increase it as you feel inclined. When we react to thoughts emotion is ignited and that means changes in body function. For example anger and fear raise the metabolism and worry lowers it because worry is about thinking and reflecting on a problem and so on. All emotions modify the way the body works. So the body’s function is not at its optimum undisturbed level where perfect health can be attained. Of course perfect health is not possible because we live in a real world with real interactions with others that cause us to react, sometimes favourably but sometimes unfavourably. Use an anchor to begin with for your meditation. For instance concentrate on the breath or a candle flame or a mental sound or short phrase. Everytime your mind strays gently bring it back to your anchor. Try to observe any thoughts that are annoying as you would the hustle and bustle of the city from the top of a tall tower. it is just there and it does not involve you! When you get the hang of it you will achieve deep levels of rest that are capable of restoring health from all manner of ailments. Good meditating to you.

I know that cardio is excellent for your heart and lungs. But, when I’m lifting weights my heart obviously beats pretty fast as I lift and for quite a while after, obviously supplying oxygen, blood etc to where it’s needed. I also sweat a fair bit for about an hour after a good workout too.

My question is, is lifting weights helping me to maintain a healthy heart ? I’m not really talking about fat loss aspect, but rather the raise in heart rate, does it have the same benefits as doing a cardio work out ?

Thanks guys.

if you can lift weights at a rate that will keep your heart beating in that target HR range; then yes, it’ll do pretty much the same thing as a cardio exercise.

most likely though, with lifting heavier weights; that’s not happening.

My two year old niece knows about healthy food and exercise, so it’s never too soon. If you’re not overweight and your family doesn’t have heart problems, make sure you’re exercising and getting into the doctor at least once every 24 months for a physical and cholesterol check and you should be fine.
